Drywall & Framing

New walls, closed-off openings, ceiling repairs and skylight wells, taped and finished so the patch disappears.

Drywall & Framing by ONIT Solutions

Framing and drywall are where a remodel gets its shape and where the quality of the finish is decided. A wall that is not plumb shows up in every door and every piece of trim that touches it. A drywall seam that was rushed shows up every time the afternoon light hits it.

Framing

  • New partition walls, closets and bulkheads
  • Closing off doorways and openings, or cutting new ones
  • Basement framing with the right clearances and treated bottom plates
  • Repairs to damaged or rotted framing after water or impact damage
  • Blocking for cabinets, grab bars, TVs and heavy fixtures

Drywall

  • Hanging, taping and finishing new drywall
  • Ceiling repairs after leaks, and skylight wells rebuilt and finished
  • Patches that disappear, on flat walls and on textured ceilings
  • Skim coating over damaged plaster or old wallpaper walls
  • Water-resistant board in baths and fire-rated board where code calls for it

Dust

Sanding drywall makes dust, and we plan for it: plastic walls at the doorways, floors covered, vacuum sanding where it fits, and a real clean-up before the painter starts. If the rest of the house is occupied while we work, that matters more than anything.

FAQ

Questions about drywall & framing

Can you repair plaster, or does it have to come out?
Most plaster can be repaired and skim coated. We take it out only when the keys have failed and it is loose from the lath.
How long does a ceiling repair take?
Usually two to three visits a day apart: patch, then tape and mud with drying time between coats, then sand, prime and paint.
Do you need a permit to add a wall?
For a non-structural partition, many towns do not. For anything bearing, or anything with new electrical or plumbing in it, yes. We check with the town and handle it.
