Stop the peeling on your Addison deck by taking failed coatings off before new stain goes on. We tell you in writing whether the wood needs stripping, sanding or a cleaning and recoat.
Staining work for us means decks, fences, pergolas, siding, trim, front doors and wood inside the house. The question that decides how a job goes is what is on the wood now. A worn semi-transparent stain can often be cleaned and recoated, while a peeling solid stain or a film-forming sealer has to come off first. We strip or sand down to wood that will take stain, replace loose or rotted boards, then apply the new coats.
Addison is on our regular route, with our trucks on I-290, I-355, Route 53, Lake Street and Army Trail Road. If your deck has been coated over and over, the layers can build up until the newest one peels off in sheets and takes older ones with it. Putting more stain on top of that only buys a season. We test a spot, tell you what is coming off and why, and price the strip or sand as its own line so you can see where the work goes.

We test a hidden spot to see whether the old finish is a penetrating stain or a film, which decides strip or sand.
Peeling solid stain and old sealers come off with a remover and a rinse, and the wood is neutralized afterward.
Rough, raised or fuzzy boards get sanded so the new stain goes on evenly and the deck is not splintery underfoot.
Boards that move get refastened, and rotted ones get replaced, before any stain goes on.
We go over transparent, semi-transparent and solid with you, and match the choice to how the wood looks once it is bare.
Rails, balusters and stair stringers get the same stripping and stain as the deck floor.
We look at the deck or fence, test the old finish and write an estimate that lists stripping or sanding, repairs, the stain and the coats. If stripping uncovers damage we could not see, like a soft stair tread or a rotted rim board, we show you and price it in writing before doing it. Stripping, drying and staining happen on separate days, and we set them around the weather and the dates we gave you. When the last coat is dry, we walk it with you.
