The ledger board

Most deck failures start where the deck meets the house. We flash and fasten the ledger to current code, with the right bolts, not just lag screws, and we will tell you if an existing ledger needs to be redone before anything else is worth fixing.

Questions about deck & porch construction

Do I need a permit for a deck?

In nearly every town we work in, yes, for a new deck or a structural repair. We pull it and schedule the inspections.

Composite or wood?

Composite costs more up front and needs almost no upkeep. Treated wood costs less and needs sealing. We price both if you are deciding.

Can you just replace the boards?

If the frame is sound, yes. We inspect the joists, posts and ledger first. Resurfacing a rotten frame is money wasted.
