Joliet doors that close without sticking and trim with sharp edges again, because we deal with the old paint build-up before the new coat goes on.
Woodwork wears differently than walls. It gets kicked, bumped, grabbed and wiped, so the paint on it has to be harder and the prep has to be more careful. We sand glossy finishes dull, fill the dents and nail holes, caulk the joints and use a bonding primer where we find oil-based paint underneath. Doors that need it come off the hinges and get painted lying flat, then go back up with their hardware once the enamel has set.
We cover Joliet on I-80, I-55, Route 30 and Jefferson Street, on both sides of the Des Plaines River. If your trim has been painted many times over, the layers fill in the detail on the casing and pile up on door edges until the door rubs the jamb. On those jobs we sand back the edges and scrape out the worst of the build-up before priming, so the door closes again and the profile shows. Where a door still sticks after that, we ease the edge so it swings freely before it gets painted.

Thick layers on door edges and casing corners are sanded down so the new paint does not add to the problem.
A door that rubs the jamb gets its edge eased and sealed before paint, so it swings freely afterward.
Clogged profiles on casing and base are scraped and sanded so the shape of the trim shows again.
We check for oil-based paint and use a bonding primer over it so the new enamel does not peel.
Window casing, stools and aprons are sanded, caulked and painted with the glass kept clean.
Hinges, knobs and strikes are removed or masked, never painted over, and reinstalled at the end.
First we come out, open and close every door, look at the trim and write you a free estimate before we leave. The written scope says which doors need easing, which surfaces need a bonding primer and how many coats each gets. If we find something hidden, like a split jamb under the paint, you get a written price for that repair to approve before we fix it. We work the days we said, and we close by walking the house with you and touching up what you find.
