Change the color of your Palatine deck or fence and get a result that looks right, not muddy. We tell you up front what the wood can and cannot do before you pick a stain.
Every staining job we do, on a deck, fence, pergola, siding or front door, follows one order: clean and brighten, strip or sand what has failed, replace loose or rotted boards, then stain. What makes one job different from the next is usually the color question. Going darker over clean wood takes less prep. Going lighter, or switching from solid to semi-transparent, means the old stain has to come off first.
Palatine is on our regular route, reached up Route 53 and on Rand Road, Northwest Highway and Dundee Road. If your deck has a solid stain and you want to see the grain again, that solid stain has to be stripped, and the wood underneath is not always worth showing. We strip a test area first so you see the bare wood before deciding. When the answer is to stay solid, the color can still change, because one solid stain covers another well on clean, sound wood.

We put your chosen stain on a cleaned spot of your own wood, since a color card rarely matches the real thing.
Darker stain over clean, brightened wood covers the older color and evens out the look.
Lighter colors need the old stain stripped or sanded out, which we price as its own line.
Switching back to a grain-showing stain means a full strip, and we test an area first so you see what is underneath.
Loose boards get refastened and rotted ones replaced, so new color is not spent on bad wood.
If the fence and deck are getting the same color, we prep both so they take the stain the same way.
We look at the wood with you, test the color on a hidden spot and write an estimate that names the prep, the stain, the color and the coats. If stripping shows wood that needs replacing, you see it and get a written price before we do the work. Stain days are set around dry weather and the dates on the estimate. At the end, we walk the deck or fence with you and touch up anything you point out.
