Keep your Arlington Heights deck protected by recoating it before the stain wears through, which saves a full strip later. We tell you plainly which one your wood needs.
The right staining job depends on what shape the current stain is in. If it has worn evenly and water no longer beads, a cleaning and a fresh coat may be all the wood needs. If it has peeled, blotched or turned gray in patches, we strip or sand, replace bad boards and start over. We work this way on decks, fences, pergolas, siding, trim and front doors.
Arlington Heights is on our regular route, and we come in on Route 53, Arlington Heights Road and Northwest Highway, around downtown and the Metra station. A good way to check your own deck is to pour a little water on the boards: if it beads up, the stain is still working, and if it soaks in and darkens the wood, it is time. Horizontal boards wear well before railings and fences do, so it often makes sense to recoat the deck floor while the rails only need a cleaning and touch-up. We put that split in writing so the work matches what the wood needs.

We check how the boards take water to see whether the current stain is still protecting the wood.
Where the old stain is worn but still bonded, we clean and brighten the wood and apply a maintenance coat.
Where the finish has peeled or blotched, we strip or sand it off and stain from clean wood.
We look at each part on its own, since deck boards wear faster than rails, posts and fences.
Loose boards get refastened and rotted ones replaced so the new coat goes on sound wood.
If a wood front door or trim needs refinishing too, it can go on the same estimate.
We check the wood with you, test how it takes water and write an estimate that says recoat or strip for each part, along with repairs, stain and coats. If something changes once the wood is clean, like a soft board we could not see, it gets priced in writing and waits for your approval. Dates are set around the forecast and the schedule we gave you, with drying time after cleaning. When it is done, we walk the job with you.
