Stained trim in your Shorewood home painted white or any color you pick, primed so the old wood does not bleed through the new paint.
Going from stained wood to painted trim is one of the bigger changes you can make in a room, and it only holds up when the prep is right. We clean the woodwork, scuff-sand the varnish, fill the nail holes and caulk the gaps the stain used to hide. A primer chosen to bond to the old finish goes on next, then an enamel in your sheen. Doors come down and are painted flat, and the hardware goes back on after the paint has cured.
Shorewood is on our regular route, and we come in on I-55, Route 59 and Route 52 and along Black Road by the DuPage River. If your trim and doors are stained oak or another varnished wood, the clear coat has to be scuff-sanded and wiped clean, then covered with a stain-blocking primer before a light color goes on. Skip that and the tannins in the wood can bleed through as yellow or brown spots, sometimes weeks later. Oak has open grain, so we also show you how much of that texture will read through the paint before you commit.

Clear coats are sanded dull and wiped down so primer can bond without taking the wood back to bare.
A primer made to lock in wood tannins goes on first, so light colors stay clean.
Going from dark wood to white can take another primer or finish coat, and the estimate counts it.
Paint shows every gap that stained wood hid, so we caulk the joints and fill the nail holes before color.
Stained doors are taken down, primed and painted flat, then rehung with their hardware.
If you want the stair rail or a built-in kept stained, we tape it off and protect it.
We look at the finish on your trim, test a hidden spot and write a free estimate before leaving. The written scope says which primer goes on, how many coats each piece gets and what stays stained. If you decide midway to paint the rail or the built-ins too, we write up the added price and wait for your go-ahead. You get the days we booked, and we wrap up with a walkthrough so you can check the trim in daylight.
