Joliet walls fixed flat and solid, whether they are drywall or the plaster that came before it. You end up with a repair that matches the wall around it in thickness, texture and paint.
A good drywall repair is mostly about what happens before the compound goes on. We cut out the broken board to a clean square, add backing where the edges need support and screw in new drywall cut to fit. Tape goes over the joints, then three coats of compound, each one wider than the last and sanded before the next. The patch is primed, then painted to match, or the wall is repainted end to end.
We cover Joliet from I-80 and I-55, out along Route 30, Route 53, Jefferson Street and Larkin Avenue, on both sides of the Des Plaines River. Where an older Joliet house still has plaster walls, a patch takes more than a sheet of drywall. Plaster over lath runs thicker than half-inch board, so we shim the new piece out to the plaster face and use a setting compound that bonds to the old surface. Loose plaster around a hole gets secured or removed first, so the repair is not sitting on something that will let go.

New board shimmed to the depth of the old plaster and blended in with setting compound.
Hollow or sagging areas screwed back with plaster washers or cut out before patching.
Cut back to solid board, backed, re-boarded, taped and finished in three coats.
Opened, taped and finished so the crack has something to bridge it.
Damaged sections overhead replaced and finished, then painted to match.
Every repair sealed with primer and painted, or the wall painted corner to corner.
We come out, look at the walls and leave a free written estimate that spells out each repair and the method, which matters when plaster is involved. Opening a plaster wall can turn up broken lath or old wiring, and if it does we price that in writing and wait for your approval. You get the number of visits up front, since compound has to dry between coats. When we finish, we go over each repair with you before the plastic comes down.
