Old doorways closed so they disappear and new openings cut clean, in plaster or drywall. Lockport is on our weekly route.
Changing a floor plan usually comes down to openings: a doorway nobody uses, a pass-through you want wider, a wall that should open to the kitchen. To close one, we frame it in, hang board to match the wall's thickness, and finish it until the old outline is gone. To cut one, we confirm whether the wall carries load, install a header sized for the span, and finish the new edges. We also frame partitions and closets, skim coat damaged plaster and repair ceilings.
Lockport is on our weekly route, reached by Route 7, Route 171, State Street and Farrell Road. Houses near the historic downtown along the I&M Canal often have plaster walls, so we come ready for plaster as well as drywall. Plaster on lath is thicker than standard drywall, so when we close an opening in a plaster wall we build the new surface out to match. Skip that step and the patch shows as a dip every time light crosses the wall.

Doorways and pass-throughs framed in, boarded to the wall's thickness and finished so the outline is gone.
New doorways and wider openings with headers sized for the span and the load.
Damaged plaster cut back, filled and skim coated to a flat surface.
New walls and closets framed and finished to match the rooms around them.
Cracked or water-damaged ceilings repaired and blended into the existing finish.
Corners beaded or jambs wrapped so new openings finish crisp.
We start by checking whether the wall is bearing and what runs through it, like wiring, ductwork or a drain. The written estimate covers the framing, header, finish work and any permit, with a price you approve before we cut anything. If the wall hides a problem we could not see, such as damaged lath or a wire that needs moving, you get a written change to approve. When the job is done, we clean up and walk every patch and edge with you.
