Interior doors in a deep color or a crisp white, painted smooth and rehung without a drip. Our crew paints doors and trim in Elmhurst.
Doors are the biggest piece of trim in a room and the one people touch most, so they get the most careful prep. We take them down where flat painting gives a better finish, pull or mask the hardware, scuff-sand and fill, then prime and lay on enamel in thin coats. While the doors cure, the casing, baseboard and crown get the same treatment in place. Each door goes back in its own opening once it can be handled.
We cover Elmhurst off I-290 and I-294 or along York Road and North Avenue, around downtown, the Metra station and Elmhurst University in DuPage County. If you are thinking about dark interior doors, plan for more work: deep colors need a tinted primer and often a third coat to cover evenly, and they show dust and brush marks more than white does. That is why we often spray dark doors. A door can also be one color on the hall side and another on the bedroom side, and we cut the edges so each side reads clean when the door swings.

Doors removed, marked for their openings and painted flat where it gives a smoother face.
A primer tinted toward a dark finish color so the top coats cover evenly.
Dark and flat-panel doors often sprayed for a smooth face, and others brushed and tipped off.
A different color on each side of a door, with the edges cut so each side looks right when it swings.
Casing, baseboard and crown filled, caulked and painted while the doors cure.
Doors back on their hinges with hardware reinstalled, checked so they close and latch.
We look at the doors and trim with you, count them and write an estimate that names the colors, the primer, the number of coats and whether each door will be sprayed or brushed. If we find a door that is warped or split and would look bad even painted, we tell you and price a replacement in writing as an option. We set the days up front and say which doors will be down at a time. When the doors are back up, we walk the house with you and touch up anything you see.
