A new or weathered Oswego deck stained at the right time, once the wood is ready to take it, so the first coat soaks in instead of flaking.
New wood and old wood need different things. A deck built recently from treated lumber has to dry out before it will accept stain, while an older deck usually needs cleaning, brightening and some board replacement first. We test the wood, tell you which situation you are in, and prep it for that. Then we stain decks, fences, pergolas and trim with the product and color you choose.
Oswego is on our regular route in Kendall County, and we reach it on Route 34, Route 71, Orchard Road and Wolfs Crossing Road. If your deck went up in the last season or two, the treated boards may still be holding moisture from the plant, and stain put on too soon sits on top and peels. A drop of water on the board tells the story: if it beads, the wood is not ready, and if it soaks in, it is. Whether your yard runs toward the Fox River or out to open ground, bare new wood starts going gray within a season, so getting the first coat on at the right time matters.

We test new treated boards for moisture and tell you whether to stain now or wait.
New lumber can have a shiny surface from the mill, and a cleaner opens it up so the stain can absorb.
Weathered decks get washed and brightened back to fresh wood before stain goes on.
New fence pickets get stained once they are ready, so they are protected before they start to gray.
Any board that is cracked, cupped or soft is replaced, and the new wood is prepped to take the same stain.
You see the stain on a piece of your own wood before the whole deck gets it.
We visit, test the wood and write a free estimate that says whether your deck is ready now or should wait, what prep it needs and which stain goes on. After you approve that scope, we schedule the work and hold those days unless rain leaves the boards wet. Added work, like a cracked board we could not see, is priced in writing and approved by you before we do it. When the stain is on, we walk the deck with you.
