Deck, Fence & Wood Staining in Aurora

Wood siding, shakes and trim on your Aurora house stained so the grain still shows and the boards are protected, with every soft piece replaced first.

Siding, trim and deck staining in Aurora

Staining a house is different from staining a deck. Siding and trim are vertical, so they shed water and skip the foot traffic, but the boards still have to be cleaned, dried and checked for rot before anything goes on. We wash the wood, strip or sand failed finish, replace split or soft boards and renew caulk where trim meets siding. Then we stain with the opacity you choose and work it into every lap and edge.

We work in Aurora every week, reaching it on I-88, Route 59, Eola Road, Farnsworth Avenue and Orchard Road, on both sides of the Fox River. Aurora spans parts of Kane, DuPage, Will and Kendall counties, and the stain job depends on the wood on your house, not the part of town. If your house has cedar siding or shakes, a semi-transparent or solid stain protects it without hiding that it is wood. If only the trim, a porch ceiling or the front door is stained, we can do just those and leave the rest of the house alone.

What we stain on Aurora homes

Siding washed and dried

Wood siding is washed at low pressure so the grain is not torn up, then left to dry before staining.

Shakes and shingles

Cedar shakes are stained course by course, with stain brushed into the bottom edges where water collects.

Split boards replaced

Cracked or soft siding boards and trim pieces are cut out and replaced, then stained to blend in.

Trim and fascia

Window and door trim, fascia and corner boards are stained or finished to go with the siding.

Porch ceilings

Wood porch ceilings and soffits are cleaned and stained from ladders, with the porch floor covered.

Glass and walks protected

Windows, walks, the driveway and plantings are covered before stain goes on the house.

How an Aurora staining job goes

We walk the house with you and write a free estimate that lists each wall, the trim, the prep and the stain. You approve the written scope, and the job goes on the calendar for dry days. If a board we planned to keep turns out to be rotted behind the face, we write up the replacement and wait for your okay. We finish by walking each side of the house with you.

  • Every wall and trim piece on the estimate
  • Low-pressure wash, no torn grain

FAQ

Deck, Fence & Wood Staining in Aurora: questions

Should I stain or paint my cedar siding?
Stain soaks into the wood and wears away gradually, so recoating is mostly cleaning and another coat. Paint forms a film that can peel and has to be scraped. If you want the wood to look like wood, stain is the better fit, and a solid stain gives you color while letting the texture show.
Can you match stain on a few replaced boards?
We stain the new boards with the rest of the wall so they blend. If you only want a few boards done, we test the color on a scrap first, though new wood next to weathered wood will look a little different until the whole wall is recoated.
Do I need a permit to stain siding in Aurora?
A stain job on siding is not usually a permit job. Replacing a large amount of siding can, and if the job includes that, we check with the City of Aurora first.
Which towns around Aurora do you cover?
We also stain in Montgomery, Oswego, Naperville and Warrenville.
How long does staining a house take?
It depends on the size of the house, how much prep it needs and the weather. The estimate gives you a day count, and rain pushes the schedule back instead of cutting the prep short. Call or text (815) 585-1750 to get a count for your house.
