When a remodel in your Naperville house adds new drywall next to old, the new section should disappear into the wall around it. We finish the joints so you cannot tell where the old wall stops.
Taping and finishing is the work between hung board and paint: tape, corner bead, compound and sanding. On a remodel the hard part is the joint where new board butts into an existing wall, because the two surfaces rarely sit on the same plane. We feather that joint wide, sometimes two feet or more, so the eye does not catch a bump. Then the rest of the room gets three coats on every seam and fastener, sanded between each.
We work in Naperville every week, coming in on I-88, Route 59, Ogden Avenue and 75th Street, on both the DuPage County and Will County sides of town. When a kitchen wall comes out or a doorway gets moved, the strip of new board it leaves has to match walls that may have been painted many times over. If your rooms have big windows on one side, light rakes across the wall and shows every ridge, which is where a level 5 skim pays off. We point out those walls at the estimate so you decide with the facts in front of you.

Where new board meets old, the joint is feathered wide so the transition reads flat.
Cut ends without a tapered edge spread wider than factory seams so they never crown.
A thin coat over the whole face of the wall where window light or glossy paint would show texture.
Straight bead on new doorways and returns, set so the corner lines up with the trim.
A drywall primer that seals paper and compound alike, since the two soak up paint differently.
Floors, cabinets and the rooms past the work area kept covered while we sand.
Our free on-site estimate spells out which walls get standard three-coat finishing, which get a full skim, and how many return trips the drying time calls for. Anything the wall reveals once the remodel opens it, such as framing out of plumb, gets written up and priced before we touch it. We book the coats around the days we said and keep the work area closed off from the rooms you are living in. Before primer goes on, you and our crew walk the walls together with a light held flat to the surface.
