Get front porch steps that feel even and solid, rebuilt so you can still use the front door while we work. La Grange is on our regular route.
We rebuild porch steps, porch floors, railings, columns and ceilings, and we build and repair decks in treated lumber or composite. Stairs get even rises, solid stringers and a handrail that meets current code, whether they lead to the front door or down to the back yard. Where a deck or porch ties into the house, the ledger is flashed and bolted, and an old one that was done wrong gets fixed first. Before we start, you get a written estimate that lists every part we are replacing.
We cover La Grange along I-294, La Grange Road, Ogden Avenue and 47th Street, from downtown and the Metra station out to the side streets. If your house has a front porch, the steps take the most abuse: shoveling, salt and water sitting on the treads all wear them down, and rot usually starts where the stringers meet the ground. We rebuild with that in mind, keeping wood off the soil and pitching treads so water runs off. When the front steps are the only way in, we stage the work so you still have a usable entry each night.

New stringers, treads and risers with even step heights, set on a base that keeps wood off the soil.
A graspable handrail on the steps and guards around the porch, built to current code.
Rotted floor boards and joists get replaced, with a slight pitch so water drains off the edge.
We replace rotted column bases and repair ceiling boards that have taken on water.
New decks in treated or composite, or repairs and resurfacing on a frame that checks out sound.
When the front steps are the main way in, we plan the work so you can get in and out each day.
We visit for free, check the steps, stringers, floor and columns, and talk through how you use the entry. You get a written scope with the repairs, the materials and the order of work, with a price. We pull the permit when the work is structural, schedule the inspections, and set work days you can plan around. If something hidden turns up under the treads or the floor, it is priced in writing and you approve it first, and the job ends with a walkthrough on the finished porch.
