Bathroom, entry and laundry tile in Glen Ellyn set on a floor stiff enough to hold it, so the grout stays put and the tile does not crack.
We install tile in bathrooms, entries and laundry rooms, along with luxury vinyl plank, laminate and engineered hardwood through the rest of the house. Tile is the least forgiving of all of them: it needs a flat surface and a floor that does not flex, or the grout cracks first and the tile follows. So we check the subfloor for flatness and bounce, level, patch or sand where it needs it, and add backer board or plywood when the floor is too thin for tile. Base, shoe and transitions are part of every job, and we move and reconnect what is in the room.
We work in Glen Ellyn every week, on Roosevelt Road and Route 53, along Main Street near the Metra station and up around Lake Ellyn. The village is in DuPage County with Wheaton and Lombard on either side and College of DuPage within its borders. Where an older Glen Ellyn house still has board subfloor, the boards laid across the joists can cup and shift, which is fine under carpet and a problem under tile. We look at it from the basement during the estimate when we can, then screw it down or add a layer of plywood before any tile is set.

We look at the joists and subfloor and add plywood or backer where the floor is too flexible for tile.
Tile set in thinset on a proper backer, with the toilet pulled, the flange height checked and the toilet reset.
Laid out from the doorway with full tiles where you walk in, and the washer pulled and reconnected.
Loose board subfloor gets fastened to the joists so it stops moving under the new floor.
For bedrooms and living areas, installed over a leveled subfloor with the right underlayment.
Transitions sized to the height difference between tile and the floor beside it, plus base and shoe at every wall.
We come out for a free estimate, measure, and check the floor from below when the basement or crawl space lets us. You get a written scope that spells out any plywood or backer, the tile or plank, and the trim, and you approve it before we order. If removing the old floor exposes rot near a toilet or a tub, we show you and price the repair in writing before we go on. We set the days in writing, keep the dust out of the rest of the house, and walk the finished floor with you.
