New board that meets the old wall with no step and no line where one ends. We tape and finish drywall in Roselle so a remodel looks like it was built that way.
A lot of new drywall goes up right next to walls that were already there: a wall taken out between kitchen and dining room, a doorway closed, a strip of ceiling replaced. When new board meets old, the transition is the hard part. We tape that joint, then feather compound well out onto the existing wall so the eye cannot find where one stops. Where the old surface has texture or a slightly different thickness, we build up or skim the new side until the two sit in one plane.
Roselle is on our regular route by Lake Street, Roselle Road and Irving Park Road. The town sits on both sides of the DuPage and Cook county line, but the permit comes from the village either way, so we check with Roselle directly when the work calls for one. If your Roselle remodel opens up a floor plan, the ceiling strip where the wall used to stand is the spot everyone looks at, because light from the new opening crosses it. We give that strip a wide finish and check it from both rooms.

The joint where new board meets an existing wall is taped and feathered wide onto the old surface.
The gap left by a removed wall gets new board, tape and a wide finish, so no line runs across the ceiling.
A framed-in doorway is boarded, taped on all four sides and finished flush with the wall around it.
Where new board sits lower or higher than the old surface, we build up or skim until both are in one plane.
If the existing wall or ceiling has texture, the new section gets the same texture after finishing.
Everything sanded, wiped down and checked from more than one angle before primer.
The estimate is written after we see both the new board and the walls it has to match, and it spells out which surfaces we will blend into. If the old wall turns out to have loose paint or failing tape at the edge we are feathering onto, we show you and price the fix before touching it. We schedule the coats with drying time between them and keep you posted on which days we are coming. At the end we look at the transitions with you from every doorway that faces them.
