Keep water out of your Aurora house where the deck attaches, and keep the deck attached for good. We build and repair decks with the ledger flashed and bolted, plus stairs, railings and porches to code.
The ledger is the board that bolts a deck to your house, and it is where most deck failures and a lot of wall rot begin. When water gets behind a ledger that was never flashed, it rots the ledger and the rim of the house at the same time, and a ledger held on with nails can let go under load. On a new deck, we take the siding off where the ledger goes, install flashing behind and over it, and bolt it into the house framing. On an existing deck, we check the ledger first and fix it before we resurface, rebuild stairs or add railings.
We cover Aurora across Kane, DuPage, Will and Kendall counties, coming in on I-88, Route 59, Eola Road and Orchard Road. If your Aurora deck sits on the side of the house above a finished basement, a failed ledger often shows up indoors first, as a water stain on the basement ceiling or a damp rim joist near the patio door. We look from inside and outside during the estimate when we can. We also check the step down from the door to the deck surface, because a deck set too high lets snowmelt and rain run back under the door.

We remove siding where the deck attaches so the ledger bears on the house framing, not on the siding.
Flashing laps under the siding above and over the ledger so water runs out and away from the wall.
Through-bolts or rated structural fasteners go into the house rim at the spacing code calls for.
If water already got in, we cut out the damaged wood on both the deck side and the house side and replace it.
The deck surface is set below the door threshold so water and snow stay outside.
We build code stairs and railings and repair front porch steps, columns and floors.
We look at the ledger from outside and, when we can, from the basement side, and then write a free estimate that covers the connection, the frame and the surface. Opening the wall at the ledger can uncover rot in the house framing, and if it does, we stop, show you and price the repair in writing before we continue. We pull the permit with the City of Aurora and book the crew around the inspection dates. Before the decking goes over the ledger, we show you the flashing and bolts, and the job ends with a walkthrough on the finished deck.
A free on-site estimate starts with the ledger. Call or text (815) 585-1750 and we will show you what the connection needs before we price anything else.
