Tile goes over a continuous membrane that is sloped to the drain and tested first, because tile and grout let water through on their own. We cut it out in sections, check the framing and subfloor it was hiding, and then decide with you between a new tub with a tile surround or a walk-in shower. Either way, the new surround gets the waterproofing a fiberglass unit never needed.
