Ceiling corners taped to ride out the winter instead of cracking along the top of the wall. We tape and finish new drywall in Rolling Meadows and redo seams that keep opening in the same spot.
Some drywall cracks have nothing to do with bad taping and everything to do with the house moving. A ceiling framed with roof trusses can lift a little in winter and settle back in summer, and a stiff, thin joint at the top of the wall tears each time. When we finish new board under that kind of ceiling, we tape the wall-to-ceiling corner with paper tape in setting compound, and where the board is still going up, we keep the screws back from that corner so the ceiling edge can move. The rest of the walls get the usual three coats, feathered and sanded between.
We cover Rolling Meadows on Route 53, with Golf Road, Kirchoff Road and Algonquin Road bringing us across town. If the top corners in your Rolling Meadows house crack every winter and close up in summer, that pattern points to movement in the framing above, not to the paint. Re-taping the same corner the same way will give you the same crack next year. We cut out the failed tape, re-bed it and finish the corner so the joint has room to move, and we tell you plainly when the real answer is in the framing.

Taped with paper in setting compound and finished so the corner has a little room to flex.
Cracked tape along the top of a wall is removed back to sound tape before the corner is redone.
Seams, fasteners and corners on new drywall coated three times and sanded between coats.
Where new board is still being hung, screws are kept back from the corner so the ceiling can move without tearing the tape.
Outside corners beaded straight and coated so the edge stays sharp.
Floors covered, doorways sealed and vacuum sanding used wherever it works.
We look at the cracks or the new board, ask when the cracks open and close, and write an estimate that explains what we will do and why. If what we find points to a framing issue rather than a taping one, we tell you before going further and put any added work in writing for your approval. Finishing runs over several visits with drying time between coats, on days we settle with you ahead of time. We wrap up with a walk through each room, looking closely at the corners.
