Get stairs that feel even underfoot and railings that do not move when you lean on them. We work in Westmont every week.
Our deck work runs from new builds in treated lumber or composite to the repairs that keep an older deck safe: stairs, landings, railings, joists, posts and ledgers. Stairs and railings get extra attention, because that is where people get hurt. Each new deck hangs from a ledger that is flashed and bolted to the house, and a ledger that was installed wrong gets corrected before we add anything. The scope and price come to you in writing before we start.
We cover Westmont along Ogden Avenue and Route 83, and the streets off Cass Avenue and 55th Street, out from the Metra station. If your deck stairs have uneven steps, a soft stringer or a handrail you cannot get a grip on, they are worth fixing before anything else. Railings that wobble usually mean the posts were nailed or screwed to the outside of the frame instead of bolted through it, and new balusters will not fix that. We rebuild the post connections so the railing holds, and set the guards and handrails to current code.

We recut stringers and set treads so every step is the same height, top to bottom.
Posts are fastened through the frame with bolts and blocking, so the railing stays solid.
Stairs get a handrail sized for a hand to wrap around, not a flat board on edge.
Guard height and the spacing between balusters meet the code the village enforces.
Rotted joists, posts and ledgers get replaced, and the ledger is flashed and bolted.
We build new in treated or composite, or resurface a frame that checks out sound.
A free visit comes first, and we test the stairs and railings by hand, check the frame and look at the ledger. You get a written scope that lists every repair or the full build, with a price. Structural work and new decks get a permit, which we pull, and we set work days once it is approved. If we find more once boards or rails come off, we price it in writing and wait for your yes, and we finish by walking every stair and leaning on every rail with you.
Have us test your stairs and railings by calling or texting (815) 585-1750. The visit is free, and every fix is written down with a price.
